چکیده

Combining ability and gene action for quality and nutrient uptake of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) were studied following full diallel mating analysis using five pure lines viz. IN-1048, Clemson spineless, Punjab selection, 1936 and IN-97 as parents under wastewater condition. The experimental lay out consisted of in CRD in full diallel cross mating in the research area of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics. Results indicated the presence of significant quality and nutrient uptake differences in wastewater compared with control. Both additive and non-additive variances were proved useful for majority of the characters; however non-additive genes regularly showed dominant contribution towards quality improvement. Protein, carbohydrate contents were increased significantly under wastewater along with a little increase in fiber contents. Higher levels of heavy metals i.e. Cd and Fe were also observed but found within the safe limits for consumption.

Evapotranspiration and yield of okra as affected by partial root-zone furrow irrigation

Partial root-zone drying or partial root-zone irrigation is a newly proposed water saving technique which may improve water use efficiency and nutrient uptake by a crop without affecting its yield. A study was conducted to investigate the response of furrow-irrigated okra to partial root zone drying in relation to cropevapotranspiration (ETc), vegetative growth, yield, and nutrient use effi...

Monitoring sugar beet rooting depth irrigated with recycled waste water and different irrigation methods for water savings in an arid climate

ABSTRACT- A detailed understanding of crop rooting systems will facilitate water use reduction, optimized nutrient uptake and irrigation scheduling more efficiently. A field experiment was conducted during 2005-2006 to investigate sugar beet rooting depth growth, irrigated with three irrigation methods (subsurface drip, surface drip and furrow) and two water qualities (recycled wastewater: EC= ...

Evaluation of the microbiological quality of wastewater effluent-irrigated maize

Background and Aim: Water crisis in many regions of the world especially arid and semi-arid areas such as Iran, is an important obstacle for socioeconomic development and food security. Under such circumstances, wastewater reuse in agriculture can be regarded an important alternative water source. However, treated wastewater may contain some types of pathogenic microorganisms which can threaten...

تأثیرآبیاری با پساب بر عملکرد و کیفیت بامیه (Hibiscus esculentus L.)

In order to evaluate the effect of wastewater on yield and quality of okra plant, an experiment was carried out in wastewater filtration station of Kerman University during 2008 using a completely randomized block design with three replications. Treatments included different concentrations of wastewater (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) applied with drip method. The results showed that the use of wastew...

Nutrient uptake rate and removal efficiency of Vetiveria zizanioides in contaminated waters

This research compares the performance of floating systems planted with Vetiveria zizanioides as a hydroponic approach for removing nutrients from two contaminated waters. For this purpose, two pilots with overall net volume of 60 litres were constructed and inoculated by secondary treated domestic wastewater (STDW) and irrigation water obtained from Minab reservoir (IWMR) in batch mode. Regard...
